But when pretend gets real, Melanie can’t tell where the charade ends and reality begins. When the dust settles, will she get thrown back into the friend zone, or will she finally get the man of her dreams?

BookwormReviewMelanie is tired of waiting for the right man who’ll sweep her off her feet. So she sets her groove on & makes her move. And to Grey’s she goes. But her best friend Luke calls on her and tells her that her plan isn’t really something he wants her to do. Soon Luke decides to present himself instead. Sounds like a fair bargain.

What started as innocent plan turned into an exciting tryst in between sheets. Luke and Melanie sure fired up their lives in more ways than one. Who knew pretending to be in a relationship could be so much fun, hot and awesome?!

I enjoyed reading this fun romantic read. This is my first book from Maisey Yates and the fourth in the Montana Born Brides series. The stories just keeps getting better and better. I think I won’t get tired of love stories esp from Montana’s finest!

Wedding fever has hit the little town of Marietta…

And Kaitlin Shuller’s groom of her dreams is marrying someone else… her sister.

Worst day ever. Her heart is broken, and all her carefully laid plans destroyed. Enter Beckett Larson, her older brother’s best friend and a very good bad decision.

Beckett has spent his life trying to outrun his bad reputation, but everyone already thinks the worst of him, so when Kaitlin offers herself to him — virginity and all— he just can’t say no.

But one night together has permanent consequences, and this time Beckett knows he can’t outrun his bad boy reputation. He’s determined to make Kaitlin his bride…even if he has to seduce her down the aisle.

Kaitlin’s dream of becoming a McArthur bride was crushed when the man he longed to love, Carter, married her younger sister instead. Then she ran off with Beckett, the man she openly loathed. Their one night tryst turned to a night worth 9 months in the making.

I liked this latest book in the Montana Bride series. Nicole Helm literally helmed a bestseller with Kaitlin and Beckett in tow. I liked the idea that Kaitlin wasn’t really in good terms with Beckett, then eventually realized her feelings and acted upon it. That was quite romantic, in my opinion. And the resident bad boy reputation had always been my weakness, so Beckett clearly got me, motorcycle and tattoos included.

I also liked how Nicole wrote in such a way that one can’t help but fall in love with the characters and the story as a whole. She had me sighing with pleasure in more ways than one! All in all, this had been a great romantic read!

Bryn Aven has always longed to be a part of the Kanin world.

Though she has no social status because she’s a half-breed, she refuses to give up on her dream of serving the kingdom she loves. It’s a dream that brings her to a whole new realm . . . the glittering palace of the Skojare.

The Skojare people need protection from the same brutal rival who’s been threatening the Kanin, and, being half Skojare herself, it’s a chance for Bryn to learn more about her heritage. Her boss Ridley Dresden is overseeing her mission and wants to help. He’s always been her most trusted friend—but as their undeniable attraction heats up, he becomes a distraction she can’t afford.

Brynn is about to discover that the Skojare world is full of secrets, and as she’s drawn in deeper and deeper, she doesn’t know who to trust. As she gets closer to Ridley, she realizes she may not even be able to trust her own heart.

BookwormReviewThis is one of those times when I had to read the second book first instead of Book 1. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get a copy of the first book, but when Netgalley had this, luckily, my request to read this was accepted.

The concept of trolls is kind of new to me. (Honestly, I don’t remember reading a novel that’s got trolls in it. Or Maybe I have totally forgotten. Sorry, my memories fail me today).

Bryn Aven is  a part troll. In the Storvatten kingdom, she’s referred to as a half Skojare. She’s a tracker who has no troll abilities, but that doesn’t stop her from wanting to be part of Kanin. The book starts with Bryn and Ridley reporting to the King about the possibility of Queen Linnea’s death, the recent escape of Konstantin Black and the involvement of Victor Dalig, the man who had tried to overthrow the Kanin King for as long as she remembers. A lot is Bryn’s mind, but what keeps her smiling is her friend Tilda’s upcoming wedding to Kaspar and the birth of their firstborn child.

Everything falls apart when Konstantin returns and one of her friends died. Everything Bryn previously believed seems to be untrue. And now it’s up to her to prove everyone that she isn’t the murderer they think she is.

Ice Kissed had me reading from sunset to sunrise! Bryn, Ridley, Konstantin and Kenet are such interesting characters. This world of trolls had me captivated. Amanda Hocking may just be my new favorite fantasy author!

Needless to say, I was hooked by the premise of this book as soon I first heard about the mystical realm that Amanda Hocking has created. That’s why I would love to read the first book in the series! And of course, I can’t wait to read what happens next to Bryn!

Hourglass by Claudia Gray

Title: Hourglass
Series: Evernight #3
Author: Claudia Gray
Paperback, 339 pages
Published 2010 by HarperCollins

Bianca will risk everything to be with Lucas. After escaping from Evernight Academy, the vampire boarding school where they met, Bianca and Lucas take refuge with Black Cross, a fanatical group of vampire hunters. Bianca must hide her supernatural heritage or risk certain death at their hands. But when Black Cross captures her friend – the vampire Balthazar – hiding is no longer an option.
Soon, Bianca and Lucas are on the run again, pursued not only by Black Cross, but by the powerful leaders of Evernight. Yet no matter how far they travel, Bianca can’t escape her destiny.
Bianca has always believed their love could survive anything . . . but can it survive what’s to come?
Hourglass – the third (!) installment from the Evernight series.
1alineBreakI’ve just finished Hourglass and I must say, I was more than surprised and intrigued for the next book.  This time I did not research for this book because I really want to feel the thrill and suspense and Bianca’s overwhelming change and Lucas’ determination to stay human.
I enjoyed Evernight and Stargazer, but I think, Hourglass surpassed the first two books in the series by leaps and bounds. Claudia caught me offguard with a lot of surprises – Raquel a tomboy? Maxie the almost friendly ghost, Vic being cool about Evernight as a vampire school, Ranulf hobnobbing with Vic’s family and Balthazar in a Chinese community..
Well, those minute details are awesome but the center of the universe revolved around LUCAS and Lucas alone. Forget Bianca!
Lucas has sacrificed a lot for their relationship and in the end, was about to become a vampire – something he did not ever, ever wished to be, even if his one true love was “once” a vampire.
While I was reading the second to the last chapter of Hourglass, I really thought it would be the end of the series, but no, as usual, the ending is a cliffhanger! Another two thumbs up for Claudia Gray. Hourglass is a good read. Beats the hell out of Twilight saga (IMO). The Evernight series is somehow a better catch. Don’t throw tomatoes if you don’t agree. This is my blog anyway so I can say what I want, LOL.

Stargazer by Claudia Gray

Title: Stargazer
Series: Evernight #2
Author: Claudia Gray
Paperback, 329 pages
Published February 9th 2010 by HarperTeen

The vampire in me was closer to the surface . . .
Bianca, born to two vampires, has always been told her destiny is to become one. But she has fallen in love with Lucas, a vampire hunter who infiltrated Evernight Academy, the exclusive vampire boarding school she attends. Bianca will do anything to be with Lucas, even if it means lying to the powerful vampires of Evernight. Her deceit leads her to dig deep into the mysteries of the school, and Bianca discovers that even those she trusts the most have their own dark secrets. When a ghostly force begins attacking Evernight—and targeting Bianca—she learns a shocking truth about her past that will forever change her future.
1alineBreakLike Evernight, this second book, Stargazer is as exciting and cliffhanging as the first one. Although Lucas & Bianca spent most of the entire year with secret rendezvous, stolen moments & kisses, the fact that their love for each other never fade was really something to look forward to.
Well, it seemed that a major part of Bianca’s new life wasn’t what appeared to be . Mysteries still surround her as she also tried hard to hide her own secret. She soon met Balthazar’s sister, Charity who was  being chased by the Black Cross. Unfortunately for Balthazar & Bianca though, Charity was a pain in the ass.
Truth is, in this book, I think I like Balthazar better, at one point, I wanted him to be with Bianca. The “fight” between vampires and ghosts were new to me and Gray’s detailed story about them made me understand about wraiths and the undead. Let’s see what book 3 has to offer!

Light In Shadow

LightInShadowTitle: Light in Shadow
Series: Whispering Springs #1
Author: Jayne Ann Krentz

Zoe Luce is a successful interior designer in the Arizona town of Whispering Springs who’s developed an unusual career specialty-helping recently divorced clients redesign their homes, to help them forget the past and start anew. But Zoe knows that some things can’t be covered up with a coat of paint. And when she senses that one of her clients may be hiding a dark secret, she enlists P.I. Ethan Truax to find the truth.Working together, they solve the mystery . . . and barely escape with their lives. But Ethan’s exquisite detection skills are starting to backfire on Zoe: she never wanted to let him find out about her former life; she never wanted to reveal her powerful, inexplicable gift for sensing the history hidden within a house’s walls; she never wanted him to know that “Zoe Luce” doesn’t really exist. She never wanted to fall in love with him.

Now, no matter how much she resists, Ethan may be her only hope-because the people she’s been running from have found her. And just when Zoe dares to dream of a normal life and a future with the man she loves, her own past starts to shadow her every step-and threatens to take her back into a nightmare.

Two women escaped from a mental asylum. Two women who’s past is never to be talked about. Two women who struggled to live a normal life. But one of them could feel the ghosts in the walls of the rooms she was inspecting. Zoe Luce had that sixth sense. Was it for real, or was it just the effects of being held in mental?

Ethan Truax was a one-man PI. He’s quite good at his job, but was financially bankrupt, so he was doing his best to make everything work. But he had this feeling that something was amiss when it came to Zoe and her past.

I think this is my fifth Jayne Ann Krentz novel, although this is my first time to actually review her book. I have heard so much about this author in the past. She’s an effective storyteller, her works are astute and believable, even those novels with psychic elements. In Light In Shadow, the characters had disturbing past, which made their stories more mysterious than ever. It contained just the right amount of drama, humor, suspense and thriller. I wouldn’t mind reading the second book in the series, Truth or Dare.

The pre-teen and teenage years are a confusing time when bodies start acting with a will of their own, friendships change and crushes start to develop. Using direct literal language and cool colour illustrations, this book tells boys all they need to know about growing hair in new places, shaving, wet dreams and unexpected erections. It’s full of great advice on what makes a real friend, how to keep spots away, and how to stay safe online. Most importantly, it explains that every body is amazing and unique and encourages young boys with autism to celebrate difference!

I am thankful to the publishers for this opportunity to read a book that focuses on boys with special needs like Autism. I actually requested for this book in the hopes to understand my friend’s son who’s got autism spectrum, and also to help my friend on how to cope with her son, Brent. Together, we read the book to him, and thoroughly explained the stuffs he needs to do with his body while growing up. I like that the book also contains important information and advice for parents and guardians in order to properly provide for the physical and emotional well-being of the kids. He’s learning a lot, thanks to the valuable pieces of information as well as the illustrations in the book. Definitely a book that growing up boys will enjoy, love and keep at heart!
